In 1983, the Netherlands abolished the principle of male preference primogeniture from the Dutch monarchy. This means that royal men are no longer preferred for the throne over their older female relatives. In fact, King Willem-Alexander actually had three daughters and no sons so his oldest daughter would inherit the throne in any case.
