Girl Scouts promise to be helpful citizens and they lived up to this promise during the World Wars and the Great Depression. They collected peach pits to be used as filters for gas masks, worked in hospitals and provided support to the troops. During the Depression, they collected clothes, food, made quilts and provided meals for impoverished families.
