Ian Fleming fancied himself a bit of a playboy so perhaps James Bond is him realizing his own fantasy life. He liked his martinis shaken, not stirred, was a spy, a womanizer and wrote the Bond novels on a gold typewriter. They also both worked as commanders in the British Navy.
