King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima have been responsible for the modernization of the Dutch royal family. Willem-Alexander doesn’t like being called ‘Willem IV’ because he finds it too formal. He takes after his father in (some) ways – Prince Klaus hated formality and even objected to ties. Willem-Alexander has even said that he wouldn’t object to the monarchy becoming purely ceremonial and having no connection with the Dutch government.
