Hip hop began in the Bronx and much of NYC slang is influenced by hip hop dialect. Ever heard the word ‘dumb’ used to add extra emphasis? As in, ‘that car is dumb good’. ‘Thirsty’ is often used to talk about someone who is acting desperately. And you definitely don’t want to be labelled an overeager ‘thirstbucket’!
