“Chicago” is based on a San Francisco murder case – Beulah Annan was the inspiration for Roxie Hart’s character. After he told her that he was leaving her, Annan killed her lover whilst listening to jazz. Just like Hart, Annan claimed that he had been a burglar who attacked her.
