‘Romeo and Juliet’ is one of Shakespeare’s most performed plays – its first performance is thought to have been between 1594 and 1595. It’s incredible that we’re still performing it today! The play is pretty long – it has an epic 25,948 words in it. The play is set in Verona where the story has become a big tourist industry. There is even a balcony in Verona that mimics the one in the play! Every year thousands of people send Valentine’s card to Verona to be given to ‘Juliet’. On Valentine’s Day the city puts on festival called ‘Verona in Love’ which celebrates the star-crossed lovers.
