Interesting fact:

A kissing gate is one which allows one person to pass through at a time – but prevents livestock from gaining entry. The gate touches the enclosure on either side of it and so it became known as a ‘kissing gate’. Despite the literal meaning of the name, it has evolved into something more romantic. The convention is that if you pass through it with a sweetheart, you should turn back and demand a kiss for entry through the gate.
