So, Jaffa Cakes… cake or biscuit? McVitie’s were actually challenged for skipping tax by labelling these sweet treats ‘cakes’ rather than ‘biscuits’. They triumphed in the end though! And yes, apparently cakes are ‘staple food’ in the UK and thus exempt from VAT.
