The KGB, what was once the main Russian security agency, developed and utilized remarkably sophisticated audio surveillance equipment during the Cold War. They were put to use in a manner of different ways. One example saw a popular hotel in Estonia have all of its 60 rooms permanently wiretapped and monitored. A popular destination for foreign travelers, visitors had no idea that the KGB occupied an entire floor of the hotel so that constant monitoring could continue.
