Whilst McDonalds might be one of the most prolific chains around, it wasn’t the first. White Castle is generally considered the first fast food emporium, opening way back in 1921. They had the innovative idea to recreate the idea of hamburgers, having an open plan kitchen where customers could see burgers being made and making it white and clean to reassure customers of good hygiene.
