Interesting fact:
The origins of pesto are thought to go back to the Ancient Romans! They would have eaten a similar paste that they called ‘moretum’ which included many of the same ingredients. There is even a mention of pesto in the Appendix Vergiliana – an ancient poetry collection which explains how to make it.
