The first ever British advert was aired on 22nd of September 1955 by a toothpaste brand called Gibbs S.R. It was in black-and-white and featured the ‘tingling fresh’ toothpaste in an icy river. The advert also had some informational graphs to explain why the product worked – adverts have become a lot slicker since then!
