The fenghuang sounds like a genetic experiment that was taken too far: In East Asian mythology, the bird is described as having the body of a mandarin duck, the head of a pheasant, the wings of a swallow, the legs of a crane, the beak of a parrot and the tail of a peacock. The fenghuang symbolises grace and virtue.
