Mary Cassatt was born in Pittsburgh but she worked and lived for a time in France. She painted domestic scenes such as women and children. Despite her parents’ objections, she began studied at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. As a woman, she was banned from using live models and had to draw from inanimate objects.
