Dogs don’t lick things we think are disgusting just because they like the taste. They actually have a chemical sense organ located in the roof of their mouth. Licking objects helps get the scent closer to this organ, which gives the dog a lot of information about the scent. It also doesn’t hurt that they have about 8,000 less taste buds than us humans.
