Interesting fact:

Alcatraz as it appears today is only a shadow of what it looked like during its heyday. There used to be many guard towers, most of which have since been demolished, and the saltwater-induced decay has bereaved the cellhouse of its former glory. Alcatraz also had the first lighthouse on the pacific coast.
